Learning from your mistakes
As I mentioned on my previous post, I got a serger from the CNE. I really wanted to give it a try right away, and decided to make something with it. Something simple and quick.
The result: this skirt. (It's made with polyster/spandex knit. Sergers are great with knit fabrics, aside from all the other stuff you can do with it).
The good thing with making booboos is that you find out (albeit the hard way sometimes) how not to do something..like, don't sew things inside out especially on a serger. >.<
On the plus side, I finished the dress that I'll be wearing to the Fan Expo this year, and this dress was sewn without a hitch. Here's a preview:
Skirt pattern is McCalls 6654. |
Was it was easy as I'd hoped? Nope, because it wouldn't be me without hiccups along the way. This was technically the second skirt I made. See the first one below. Can you see what I did?
I sewed the casing for the elastic waistband the wrong way. It's inside out!
I also didn't stretch the casing enough when sewing it around the waist, that the skirt bunched up on one end.The good thing with making booboos is that you find out (albeit the hard way sometimes) how not to do something..like, don't sew things inside out especially on a serger. >.<
