Inspiration: The True Cost

Image
As someone who shops almost exclusively at fast fashion stores like H&M, Gap and Zara, the documentary The True Cost has really affected me since watching it. We all know by now the horror stories of garment manufacturing. Who can forget the  collapse of the factory in Bangladesh in 2013? I will admit, however, that there is a certain detachment to all of it, living in North America where bargains are always foremost in the mind of many consumers like me.:( That's why films like The True Cost need to be seen. (You can now watch this on Netflix.) It's hard to see this without feeling guilty.... And in conjunction with this film, I also highly recommend the book Overdressed by E. Cline. A very worthwhile read that deals with the same issues that True Cost does. Does this mean I will never shop again? To be honest, this post is self-serving. I figured that by sharing this on my blog, I will be held accountable and finally stick to my resolution of buying les

Thar she blows!

We get some days around here where you just feel like you're in a hair commercial without the need for the wind blower.... Topshop coat, Talula top, Gap vest, Dex leggings, Doc Marten's Happy Monday, everyone:)

High fashun?

I may be the worst blogger when it comes to outfit posts. I pretty much live in shirts and jeans especially the past few years, and I also don't buy a lot of clothes/accessories (relatively speaking) so everything is always on repeat. So why is there "Fashion Lover" in my blog name, you ask? Well, I do love clothes not just for their obvious utilitarian purpose but also as a representation of a designer's artistic abilities. I may not live in the world of Vogue with a budget for high-end clothes and such, but I can still appreciate them for their beauty... while wearing my beloved shirt and jeans....:) old shirt from West 49, American Eagle jeans, Vans slip ons with a Nike jacket So warm and cushy:) What does "fashion" mean to you?

Made in Canada

The top is another piece I just sewed. If the fabric looks familiar, it's because you've seen it here: ) tank top pattern from Colette , worn with Mossimo jeans from Target and Joe's Jeans booties Hope you all had a lovely weekend, and have an awesome Monday! It's Federal Election Day for us Canadians. See you at the polls, my fellow Canucks:)

Obsession #37

Image
Guys, I've been obsessing over this image since I saw it. It's from a sewing pattern. image from pinterest Although this is not normally my style, I'm really digging the look, especially the one with the boots. Hence, my new obsession over leather biker boots. My #1 pick: these ones from Timberland . Second choice: these ones from Roots. Third is also from Timberland. What's your current obsession?

I sewed more outfits...mwahaha! The pattern for the little one's dress is this one, and my dress is the Megan pattern from the book Love At First Stitch. My boots are Joe's Jeans:)  She wanted a dress with pockets. It's supposed to be a button at the back, but I did a hook-and-eye instead. I made the dress shorter coz I'm vertically-challenged...ahem.... I like the fullness of the sleeves:) Happy Monday, and Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians:)

Because loungewear counts

Let's talk about the awesomeness of this fabric... shall we? I sewed the pyjama bottoms (pattern from  here ) and the shorts (pattern here) . Both easy to make:) I Love Lucy fabric from Fabricland One great thing about being able to make your own clothes is that you can pretty much make whatever you want, no matter how silly it is....bwahaha!

Fashion District Trip

Image
My in-laws took the kiddos for a few hours on Saturday, so I dragged my husband for some yarn and fabric shopping  downtown at the garment district , coz that's how I roll.... Stussy hat, Danier jacket, old top from West 49, Hot Topic jeans, Vans slip ons Most of the stores have the stocks laid out floor-to-ceiling  and tightly packed...very cool but also a bit overwhelming. My hubby...the assistant:D lunch...sushi! How was your weekend, guys?

Stuck together (and stuff)

Image
Guys, I think I may have created a monster with my daughter. She feels like she has to be in every picture I take, so as soon as she sees me with the camera, off she goes with me. She doesn't necessarily want to pose all the time, but she just wants to be in the shot...sigh.... Silence and Noise jacket and BDG jeans from Urban Outfitters, H&M shirt, Converse sneakers Crafting-wise, I just had my first sewing lesson a couple of days ago with a great lady who is not only knowledgeable but also very patient. :D My teacher showing me how to work this industrial sewing machine Guys, Juki machines are just amazeballz! I did a collar for the first time! I can't wait for the next one:) The great thing is that I can just book an appointment at her shop when I have the time, so it's not a rigid schedule (which is what I need). I would like to take this opportunity to thank Aimee of Capturing Life Memoirs  for nominating me for the Sisterhood Of The Wo
