Influence: Emmanuelle Alt

Image
Since Paris Fashion Week has officially started, I thought this would be the perfect time to do a post on one of the most amazing fashion editors-in-chief. No one epitomizes effortless chic to me more than Paris Vogue's Emmanuelle Alt. She's always dressed so stylish and classy, and she makes it look so easy. How does she do it? Seriously...is it the water she drinks? Coz I'd start drinking that then! from thesartorialist.com from nymag.com from thesartorialist.com from carolinesmode.com/stockholmstreetstyle from thefashionguitar.com I love this post on Garance Dore's blog about her style. We should all do WWEAW (What Would Emmanuelle Alt Wear) when in doubt what to wear, right? Who is your style influence lately, or someone who you admire when it comes to fashion?

I don't see the end in sight!!!

Let me tell you, this winter seems just to drag on and on for me this time. I don't know why. Is it the constant dryness of the skin due to the harsh weather? The constant piling on of clothes and still not feeling warm? The shovelling and driving on the slippery roads after snowing?....Nah! I just want some sun. gifted cardigan from mom, shirt from Urban Outfitters, H&M harem pants, Zara scarf For the outside: added H&M faux leather jacket, DV by Dolce Vita booties Anyhoo, despite my whine about the weather, I do wish all of you a great Monday:) PS Did you watch the Oscars? What did you think? To be honest, it was not one of my favourites. After Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the Golden Globes, my expectations were high for Seth Macfarlane. Unfortunately, he did not live up to the hype.:( My favourite fashion moment: Charlize Theron. She was a knock-out last night! image from fabsugar.com.au

Star light Star bright

I've been using this Cambridge Satchel Company item so much lately, and let me tell you, this must be the most-commented accessory I've ever had. Both men and women of all ages seem to just gravitate towards this bag, so I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one loving this bright neon satchel:) Forever 21 jacket, gifted dress from mom (underneath), no-name leggings, Steve Madden Pembrook booties, Cambridge Satchel Company15-inch satchel (Fluoro Collection) This size is just perfect for me, as you can see, I can fit a lot of stuff inside:) Do you guys have that one item that people seem to really like?

Recipe: Chicken Adobo

Image
Adobo is a classic Filipino recipe. I believe the most important thing when cooking this is the ratio of water, vinegar and soy sauce. I've tried a couple of adobo recipes, and the one from Molly Stevens' All About Braising  (Chicken and Pork Adobado Recipe) is the best one in my opinion. The measurements  below are adapted from her book. Serves 4 to 6 Ingredients: 4 to 6 pieces of chicken thighs (with skin and bone-in) 4 to 6 eggs (optional) For the sauce: 1/2 cup of water 1/2 cup of sushi vinegar (I prefer this one although white wine vinegar was the one Stevens recommended) The vinegar I use 2 tablespoons dark soy sauce 2 teaspoons brown sugar 1/4 cup minced garlic 1 large bay leaf 1/4 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp pepper Directions: 1) Mix together all the ingredients for the sauce on a braising pan. 2) Add the chicken, making sure to coat them. 3) Turn the heat on to medium. When the sauce boils, lower the temperature until it is gently simmering. Cover.

Striped

Image
A basic layered outfit for the cold:) Feeling grey...get it? Bwahaha! DKNY coat, gifted cardi from mom, H&M shirt, gifted leggings from sister, Doc Martens boots Am I wearing a striped shirt underneath the striped cardigan? Why yes...yes, I am. One can never really get tired of stripes, right? (See post here .) Happy Tuesday, everyone:)

I asked my hubby if I can have this jacket because he's never worn it. He said yes. It was a jacket I gave to him. He has three other plaid jackets. I think he's trying to tell me something.... J.Crew jacket, Marc by Marc Jacobs shirt, pants from Target, Ugg Australia Adirondack boots The shirt says "Ce soir" :) Happy Friday, everyone:) Wishing you all a great weekend!

Valentine-Inspired Nails

Image
To celebrate the day of love (which really should be everyday, right?), here are my pink-and-red nails. I don't really do nail art (unfortunately), but I thought doing the two colours would be fun.:) I used these two China Glaze polishes. What are you all planning for Feb 14th? Anything special? (This post is submitted to IFB Project #82 .)

Our city was hit by a huge snow storm yesterday, and let me tell you, I did not like it. Not one little bit. Too much shovelling, and driving on a lot of snow is never fun. The kids, however, had a blast!  I know some of you are thinking, "Well, you ARE in Canada." I will tell you now, there's nothing we Canucks like more than freak out about 25 cm of snow...well, maybe just me.... I made the boys stay home, even though it wasn't technically snow day. The schools were open, y'all! Cray cray! Our backyard deck. Look how much accumulated on the step! Anyhoo, hope you're all having a warm and cozy Saturday, wherever you are:) Our family is celebrating Chinese New Year this weekend! (Hubby is of Chinese-descent.) Woohoo! Kung Hay Fat Choy , peeps!
