Patchwork

My youngest had been using a 15-year-old blanket (hand-me-down from her siblings), and she refused to part with it! I told her I'd make her one, and that's the only way she conceded....what a sentimental girl., this one.

Anyhoo...I made her a quilt! It's the first one I've ever sewn, but I've been meaning to make one for the longest time. It's actually good that I finally had an excuse to sew it:)

Front of the quilt (size is 58" x 71")

Back of the quilt

I just used a bunch of old fabric scarps I've had from old projects, but I did buy the batting (what you insert between the top and back layer) from our local Michael's.

I really enjoyed making this, and it was fairly quick to sew coz it's just a simple patchwork design. I also used the sewing machine for everything...even finishing the binding.

Behind the scenes:

Basting the layers together (which I thought was probably the hardest part...LOLZ)

I had to do most of the sewing on our dining table because my sewing table is too small!

The quilters of Gee's Bend has been such an inspiration for me that I thought I'd just share this documentary on them. Please watch it if you have some time.

On that note, I also finished sewing (hand-sewing this time) the Alabama Chanin Poncho. My sis-in-law got me this kit as a surprise, and I love it! I've been wearing it all the time since I finished sewing it:)

This poncho is reversible too...yay!

This was the main design of the top fabric before I reverse-appliquéd it.

How was your weekend, you guys? Did you celebrate Halloween? If you follow me on Twitter, you know what my kiddos dressed up as:D

Such beautiful work! Lovely results! I love your inspiration! Incredible poncho too! I really should try a patchwork quilt with all my fabric scraps. Actually, a friend who quilts but spends a fortune on material and then doesn't even do the actual quilting gave me a gigantic bag of material.

We had a simple Halloween of giving out candy. We had more trick'ortreaters than in a very long while. I ended up giving out Little Debbie's since one bag of candy was lose and not prepackaged. But it was a good time...seeing so many costumes.

So sweet that your daughter didn't want to part with the old quite.. and what a rockstar mom you are to make her a new one.
Love love the pattern you created on the poncho. Gorgeous.
Your Mini Me (whole family) is lucky to have such a talented Mama! A patchwork quilt is such a wonderful and practical way to use up fabric scraps. The blanket turned out really well. And how cool is your AC poncho! The colors are perfect for this time of year.
The crazies come out of the woodwork on Halloween in NYC so we were happy it fell on Sunday this year and we didn't have to go out.

That quilt is beautiful! My kids have a couple quits made for them when they were little - I think they are great sentimental pieces and it's so nice to have something that took so much time and talent to make! :)

I really like your poncho too - and that it's reversible! It looks so cosy! :)

Hope that your week is off to a good start :)
