What have I been watching- Summer 2024

Image
It's been a good period of film and TV watching for me lately:) (images from imdb.com) 1) Alien: Romulus It's been a long time since we've gone to the theatre, so I was really excited to see this one. Oh em gee! This was sooooo amazing, and a bit nostalgic to watch as I felt like it combined the vibes of the original Alien and Aliens movies. 2) Godzilla vs King: A New Empire My fave of all the new Godzilla/Kong movies so far. I really loved the fight scenes, especially the climax. 3) Umbrella Academy: The Final Season Although many of the fans did not like one part of the plot line this season (between Five and Lila), I thought the way the show ended was the only way this could have been wrapped up. 4) The Boys: Season 4 I'm still on the fence whether I liked this season or not. The violence and gore this time were just too much and sometimes completely unnecessary, but Homelander and Butcher are such great characters so I will continue to watch this. What have you bee...

The Little Mermaid was perfection.

My daughter and I, along with my younger sister, were finally able to see The Little Mermaid last week. It's a movie we've all been anticipating, and WOW! This movie was just amazing! Halle Bailey was sooooo perfect as Ariel, and I just could not see anyone doing a better job than her for this role. I literally got teary-eyed every time she sang. The rest of the cast was perfect as well, from the Jonah Hauer-King as Eric (although I must admit I was leery at first when I saw him in the trailer, but he and Halle had such great chemistry) to Melissa McCarthy as Ursula and Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian. Needless to say, I am so obsessed with this movie now. Hands down one of the best I've seen in awhile. Thank you, Disney, for finally making a great live action remake. (edit: Cinderella was the only other good remake Disney has done.) Have you seen The Little Mermaid yet?

What have I been watching #36

Because I've been reading more, my TV/film watching time had gone down a bit, but I thought I'd share what I've seen since my last update that I liked:) 1) Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 Really loved this movie. Great end to the trilogy. 2) Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 My middle child got me hooked on this animé! Amazeballz:) 3)Chainsaw Man My eldest son got me hooked on this one. Another amazing animé done by Mappa (who did the later seasons of Attack on Titan). 4) Nope Finally saw this, and loved this too:) I'm a big Jordan Peele fan! 5) X First movie of Ti West's horror trilogy! Very gory for sure so I don't recommend it if you have a weak stomach, but man....great acting from all the cast! What I didn't like: My Best Friend's Excorcism I loved the book by Grady Hendrix, but this movie (done by Amazon) was not a good adaptation AT ALL, which makes me mad! Go read the book, but don''t see the movie. What have you been watching lately?

What have I been watching #34

Sooooo...I've watched quite a bit of movies and shows over the holidays (the perk of not sleeping much), so I just thought I'd share them here. There are three categories:  1) The best ones 2) The meh and 3) Waste of time  Buckle up!!! (all images from imdb.com) The best ones Crimes of the Future Very gory at some parts (very David Cronenberg). but such a great story and great cast. Last Night in Soho Loved everything about this movie, especially Thomasin McKenzie. Great plot. Morbius I'm probably the only person on earth who loved this movie. I thought Jared Leto did an ok job, and Matt Smith was super awesome as always. (He was also great in Last Night in Soho!) Midnight Club A slow-burn but oh so worth it. Even though this was described as horror, this is really not that scary, which was ok. Just a great series. Glass Onion Love love love. Funny and entertaining for sure, although Knives Out is still my fave out of the two. Everything Everywhere All At Once My middle ...

Some Monday Inspiration: Wednesday

Image
My daughter and I just finished binge-watching the show Wednesday on Netflix, and we both loved it! Jenna Ortega's Wednesday was such a cool character, with an awesome wardrobe to boot. images from imdb.com/Pinterest/Harper's Bazaar Wednesday doesn't take crap from anyone, honest to a fault, and really just someone who always stands up for truth....how can you not love that? :) Have you seen the show?

What have I been watching #30

So, I thought I'd just share the ones I've seen lately that I've liked...I've been re-watching a lot of old films so I won't include that here:) 1) The Secrets of Dumbledore I was originally not going to watch this in support of Johnny Depp (who was fabulous as Grindelwald in the previous movie), but as big fan of the franchise, I was curious and gave in. I actually liked this film a lot, but I still think this would have been much better with Johnny (Sorry Mads Mikkelsen.). My fave is definitely Jude Law, but I also loved Callum Turner as Theseus and Jessica Williams as Prof. Hicks. 2) Moon Knight Oscar Isaac....enough said. 3) Halloween Kills I liked the Halloween film that preceded this more, but this was still ok. I think the main reason I wasn't too impressed was because of the ending...sigh.... What have you been watching lately?

What have I been watching #29- a whole lotta Zoë

Image
Some films I've seen since my last "What have I been watching post" :) 1) The Pyramid An old-ish horror film I just recently saw. Not the scariest, but I thought it was ok. 2) Gemini Great cast but the story line was kinda stupid. Had to watch it though coz I love Zoë Kravitz:) 3) Kimi Can't really go wrong with Zoë.:D A bit slow but the last 30 minutes was worth it. 4) Nausicää and the Valley of the Wind I can't believe I just recently saw this. This is a Hayao Miyazaki film, and it has become one of my top fave films. Even though this was released in 1984, the animation still stands today, and what a great story to boot. 11 out of 10:D 5) The Batman Being a Twihard, this was a no-brainer for me, and man, Robert and Zoë...what chemistry! Love love love this rendition of Batman. 6) Nightmare Alley Honestly, not my fave del Toro film, but what a great cast. 7) Dune Every second of this film was just beautiful. Totally worth the hype that it got. And what I'm c...

What have I been watching #26

These are shows and movies I've seen or  watching right now that I am loving:) all images from imdb.com 1) The Tale of the Nine-Tailed Thought I'd start off with what I'm currently watching and OBSESSED WITH! I've been a huge Lee Dong Wook fan since watching him on Goblin (I even made a post on it), so I can't believe I only started watching this show. I am trying so hard not to binge-watch it coz, man....I LOVE THIS SHOW! Dong Wook as the nine-tailed fox....I am just swooning. He's so perfect for this role, and I like his co-star Jo Bo-ah as well.  Kim Bum from Boys over Flowers is also here as Dong Wook's younger brother so double yay:D 2) Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It I loved the first two movies, so this was a no-brainer for me. Loved it, of course, although I must admit it's not as scary (IMO) as the first one. 3) Midnight Mass  I love Mike Flanagan's works (have posted before about his other Netflix series Haunting of Bly Manor and Hang...
